City of Momence

Garbage Collection

Republic Services LogoThe City of Momence has contracted with Republic Services for residential garbage pick-up. Each home has received a new 95 gallon wheeled cart or "toter". All household trash should be placed in the cart. If you find that one cart is not large enough to contain all of your weekly household debris, please contact the  office at 815.472.3332. Your cart needs will be reevaluated so that you have adequate storage for all household trash.

Carts must be placed at the end of your driveway at the curb with the lid opening facing the street and the handles facing your home. Please place cart in the alley if there is one behind your home. Trash should be out by 6:00 AM on your regular pick-up day.

City Ordinance Regarding Placement of Receptacles for Collection:

(B) Any person violating any provision of this section shall be subject to a fine of twenty five dollars ($25.00). (Ord. 598, 1-16-2006)

ELECTRONIC WASTE

Due to the new state law effective January 1, 2012, electronics may not be disposed of in your regular trash. E-waste (items such as TVs, computers and all of their peripherals, stereos, CD/DVD players, and game consoles) may be dropped off at either of the following sites:

Kankakee Dept. of Public Works
401 W. Oak St.
Kankakee, IL 60901
Bradley Dept. of Public Works
210 E. Broadway
Bradley, IL 60915

If you have an old cell phone (working or not), Verizon Wireless has a program that helps the environment by providing a safe way to dispose of unwanted electronic devices. Parts from non-working devices will be recycled and used to generate funds for non-profit domestic violence advocacy and prevention agencies. Additionally, there is an incentive to receive a gift card with each donation. An explanation of the program can be found here.

Yard waste collection will be handled differently than it has been in the past. If you do not wish to participate in the new yard waste program, you always have the option to mulch your yard waste material. Residents have two storage options for yard waste:

1. Customer owned container, not to exceed 35 gallons in capacity. If you choose this option, you will need to place one yard waste sticker to each container each week. Stickers are available for purchase at City Hall or the Allied Waste office. The sticker purchased can be attached to the handle of the container and the driver will simply remove it at the time of service.

2. You may choose to purchase biodegradable paper bags at a home improvement center or major grocery store. The yard waste sticker would be attached to the kraft bag at the time it is placed at the curb for service.

The City of Momence provides free pick-up of brush and leaves for its citizens. Read about it on the Streets and Alleys page.

Republic Services maintains a fully-staffed Customer Service Department from 8:00AM till 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. If you have any questions regarding service, please call Allied at 815.472.3332. If you have a toter question or request, please feel free to email.

The current garbage pick-up rate is $15.97 per home. If you have a billing question, please call City Hall at 815.472.2001.
