ANORDINANCEAMENDINGSIGNREGULATIONS
WHEREAS,
theCityCouncil of theCityofMomence, Illinois is chargedwith the continued administration and
oversight of theCityCodeBook; and
WHEREAS,
theCityCouncil of theCityofMomence, Illinois has established sign regulations; and
WHEREAS,
theCityCouncil of theCityofMomence, Illinois, has determined that sign regulations in the
downtown district should be updated; and
WHEREAS,
theCityCouncil of theCityofMomence, Illinoiswishes to amend theCityCode, specificallyunder a
portionof theCode known as Title 9, Chapter 9, Section1, titled “SCOPEOFREGULATIONS”, Title 9, Chapter 9,
Section3, titled “BDISTRICT”, andTitle 9, Chapter 9, Section6, titled “BUILDINGPERMITS, FEES
REQUIRED”.
NOW, THEREFORE,
be it ordained by theCityCouncil of theCityofMomence, Illinois, as follows:
SECTION 1:
That Title 9, Chapter 9, Section1, of theCityCode of theCityofMomence, Illinois, is hereby
repealed.
SECTION 2:
That there is hereby added to theCityCode of theCityofMomence, Illinois, inTitle 9, Chapter 9,
Section1, , titled “SCOPEOFREGULATIONS”.
9-9-1: SCOPEOFREGULATIONS:
(A)
The area bordered byRiver Street, SecondStreet, Pine Street, andWalnut Street shall be defined by the
term, DowntownHistorical District.
(B)
Anypubliclydisplayed sign, symbol, or notice onpremises to advertise the business therein transacted, or
name of person conducting said business onpremises, or directing to some other locale, requires a building
permit, and shall be regulated, when appropriate, by a design review committee.
SECTION 3:
That Title 9, Chapter 9, Section3, SubsectionB, Paragraphs 1 and 2, of theCityCode of theCityof
Momence, Illinois, is hereby repealed.
SECTION 4:
That there is hereby added to theCityCode of theCityofMomence, Illinois, in Title 9, Chapter 9,
Section3, SubsectionB, Paragraphs 1 and 2,
9-9-3: BDISTRICT:
In aB district, the following signs shall be permitted:
(B)
No signs shall be attached to a buildingor buildings, unless it is attached in amanner as provided
hereafter, and conform to the requirements hereinafter set forth. Such attachments shall either take the form
of:

If the sign is proposed to be erected parallel to the vertical wall surface, then it shall not project
more thanone foot (1') from thewall uponwhich it is attached, nor project beyond the end or top
of thewall towhich it is attached, nor have an area ofmore than sixty four (64) square feet. This
may include signs attached to parapet walls.
