sealed shipping container for international shipment and in route for import or export
to/from a foreign country. Upon request from lawenforcement or City of Momence
officials, the drivermust present documentation, suchas abill of lading ormanifest that
specifically ties the sealed container beingmoved to the container listed in the
documentation through the unique container number (consists of 4 letters and 7
numbers). Thedocumentationmust also clearly state the foreign country destinationor
originof that container. Failure to produce suchdocumentation shall result in the load
being considereda divisible load and ineligible to be permitted.
Furthermore, Intermodal OverseaContainer Permitsmust complywith the sameaxle
spacing requirement as the IllinoisDepartment of Transportation.
AxleSpacingRequirements:
The spacing requirements for all overweight loaded routineand LCO permits, aswell as
all towed routinepermits, are as follows:
a. The spacingbetween the steer axle and the first axle on the tractor tandem
maynot be less than 8 feet 1 inch;
b. The spacing between the last axle on the tractor and the first axle of the trailer
maynot be less than 18 feet 6 inches; and
c. The sum of all axle spacing’smust beat least 43 feet 6 inches
As a result, failure to complywith these requirements for the loadmaybe considered to
beoperatingwithout a permit and subject to be fined back to legal weight.
2.
TheCitywith respect to any street or highway under its jurisdictionmayupon application to
theMomencePoliceDepartment on forms provided by the police department and good cause
being shown therefore issuea special permit authorizing theapplicant to operate ormove a
vehicle or combination of vehicles of a sizeor weight of vehicle or load exceeding themaximum.
Theapplicant shall furnish the following information in the special permit application:
a. Thename andaddress of the owner or lessee of the vehicle.
b. Applicant's name.
c. Type of permit request whether it be for a single trip, round trip,multiple routing
or LimitedContinuousOperationPermit (LCO).
d. Thedescription and registrationnumber of thepower unit.
e. Descriptionof the object or vehicle to bemoved.
f. Thenumber of axles of the vehicle or combination of vehicles.
g. Themaximum axleweights of all single, tandem or series axles.
h. Maximum grossweight of the vehicle.
i. Themaximumwidth, length and height of the vehicle and load.
j. Requested routing over City streets to and from a specific location.
